Karen Brantnall had been working as an Executive Assistant for more than five years when she was laid-off from her position in human resources.

Despite working in HR for many years, she found it more difficult to create an effective resume and market her unique skills than she imagined. Feeling deeply affected by the lay-off, and questioning her skills, Karen came to Bow Valley College and launched into a job search plan, identifying her transferable skills for resume development and job posting analysis. She worked with two counselors who gave her feedback and suggestions that helped give her the confidence that she needed. Karen participated in mock interviews, and worked to re-focus on the future and how she could use all of her experience to get the next great job. Now, Karen works in the Human Resources departments of a Calgary technology company.
