Choosing a career is not easy. There are many steps you can take to ensure the occupation you pick is the right fit for your skills, interests, values and abilities.
Career planning is a lifelong process, including choosing an occupation. To get started on your hunt for a new career or improving your current career prospects, you will first need to choose an industry that you would like to work in. Put a lot of thought into your choice of industry. There are five stages to the career planning process; these steps can be taken alone or with the help of a Career Coach. This process needs a commitment of a few weeks - whether it is with a coach or on your own.
The Five Stages of Career Planning are:
- self assessment
- identifying career alternatives
- researching the labour market
- decision making
- action planning
In this process, your goal is to discover “Who am I?” and “What do I want?” When you can answer those questions, you will be on your way to figuring out the career that is the right fit.
